There’s nothing more flattering than a client traveling from another state just for a photo session. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Shena, who flew all the way from South Carolina for a personal brand session. This experience was a true testament to the power of vision and creativity in photography.
THE FIRST
SETUP
Shena’s visit was brief—she flew in for the shoot and returned home the same day. Despite the tight schedule, we made the most of our time together, creating several unique sets. Initially, I planned to keep things simple, but creativity soon took over.
I found myself rearranging the studio and even using a rug as a backdrop because its colors perfectly complemented one of Shena’s outfits. This spontaneous decision highlighted the essence of personal brand sessions: leveraging creativity to provide clients with unique, representative images rather than cookie-cutter shots.
RGB LIGHTING.
One of my favorite techniques in creative portraiture is using RGB lighting. This approach brings a whimsical element to the portraits, impressing both my clients and their audiences. For Shena’s session, I took it a step further by incorporating a prism, which added an extra dimension to the photos, making them truly stand out.
EXPERIMENTING WITH COLOR
& LIGHTING.
Shena brought a beautiful teal outfit, and as we brainstormed complementary colors, we decided on a stunning purple which I used as a overall color on my lighting. This color combination was absolutely gorgeous. To add an extra layer of artistry, I used a spotlight attachment to shape the light, giving Shena’s portraits a distinctive look that truly reflected her personal brand.
FLAMENCO FINALE.
To conclude our session, Shena showcased a beautiful dress reminiscent of a flamingo dancer, paired with a stylish hat. The moment I saw it, I knew I wanted to play with shadows and shapes. The combination of the dress, hat, and a fan, along with the spotlight, created the most stunning shadows and dynamic forms.
Shena’s personal brand session was a testament to the power of creativity in photography. Despite the limited time, we managed to create a series of unique and representative images that went beyond the ordinary.
