The girl who loves to read…

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by my friend and fellow photographer Aska Koziara.  She told me she would love having me taking her girl’s pictures, but since we live across the country from each other she asked me if I was up to do a collaboration, meaning that we or the girls would come up with a concept, we would plan the shoot, and then I would put everything together in Photoshop.

I immediately said yes. I’ve had a few people before asking me to edit their kid’s pictures but what was different this time is that Aska is a Photographer, has a really good knowledge of her gear and lighting techniques and she’s a sweetheart.  We meet last July while we were attending Photoshop World Conference in las Vegas.

When I work on children’s portraits I want the picture to be about them. So, I asked Aska if it was possible to gather some information from her girls and if they could sketch something for me it would be even better!

One of Aska’s girls is all about reading and she wanted her picture to be about books. She even made me a cute sketch of what she wanted.

So, with her sketch in mind, we started planning the shoot. Aska and I talked about lenses, angles, lighting and then she went ahead and took Zofia’s picture and sent it to me.

That meant it was time to play! you have no idea how excited I get when I start working on a picture!

So I turned my lights on, camera in hand, grabbed a couple of books and click!

I searched my Lightroom library for something I could use as a background and found a simple picture of my old empty dining room.untitled-1482-edit

Then, it was time for one of my favorite things to do…. Loose myself in Photoshop, that place where I don’t feel, where I don’t think about anything else but whatever I’m creating, it’s my happy place! After some magical time, I was able to put everything together and make it look as close as I could to Zofia’s sketch.

I was glad to hear Zofia liked her picture! Tomorrow I’ll be posting the other picture I did for Aska’s younger daughter and their super cute puppy.
